Costing of EE Products

This is a Crude Costing Formulae based on my Ideas which is called "Gut-Feel Thumb-Rule Methodology." Even Though i am probably the only follower of this popular System, I am sure it is worth a casual Look.

The Original IPAD. I am not sure i can believe it, unless a panel of impartial Scientists, picked randomly from around the globe; perform some carbon dating and radioactive dust spectroscopy.

If its true, then Apple and Jobs made this Dream of Intel come true. The technologies of today have made iPad possible and practical. Flash Drive, Small Batteries, Wi-Fi, LCD Touch Screens. The Common factor in both, appears to be like 'ARM'. But remember Jobs put these parts together and Marketed it, at the right time. Intel knows (history) how difficult it was to convince people to use Processors in their new product designs. Analog and Digital was good enough for many. Sometimes, when we know for sure what is good, marketing alone can make people adapt to new technology. Tablets and Netbooks need this Help, more than ever. People like Legacy.

Beetle Robot guided by Light

First have a look at this How to Build a Robot a BeetleBot. This sparked the long lost memory of a book i read around 35 years back. My age was in single digits. This was when i had neither an idea of electronics or could afford any parts.

I had built many physics projects like weighing scale, gramophone, telegraph system, crystal radio. I will try to explain these later. Calling bells, gears and magnets from the flea markets my source of electricity & magnetism.

How to Build a Robot - The BeetleBot v2 ( Revisited )
I read a hobby book from UK for children. It was a Beetle Car Bot, with four wheels and 4 light sensors. It could be LDR or photo-transistors, i do not remember.  The light sensors were at the four corners of the car. The maneuvering was by variation in the speed of each wheel. It was based on germanium transistors mostly.

Four large lamps like 40W, had to be mounted on the ceiling, at the four corners of the room. By turning on and off these lights, this bot could go anywhere in the room. The whole book with pictures was dedicated to one bot and how-to build one.

Now that we have PIC and AVR; we can use Dimmable LED Lightning arrays to guide the bot. The challenge is in the mechanics of the bot, we have to forget that we have wireless for some time. Try this out.

Surgical Tools useful for Manufacturing

posted Aug 31, 2011 12:28 AM by Anantha Narayan   [ updated Aug 31, 2011 1:05 AM ]

Long ago, i was making and supplying some hybrid electronics to some firms. The soldering and handling required some tools and custom jigs which were designed. As the product was mass produced, some tools for managing and working on Tiny PCB's and parts were not available in the market.

So a affordable solution was created, the jigs were supplemented by surgical tools. These are the Clips and Tweezers that a doctor uses when he conducts an operation.

Let use see one here an Hemostat Clamp and other tools at P J Tool and Supply

Hemostat Clamp
Call it Forceps, Tweezers or Pliers. These tools, both the bent/arched/curved one and straight are useful.

There could be many more, visit a dentist too. check up your molars and when he is away, browse around and figure what's useful for electronics. Do not touch any tool or try them, remember he is a Dentist.

When you go to a Surgical Supplies Store, do not disclose the purpose of the visit. Pretend to be a Student of Zoology.

Buy some Filter Paper, capillary tubes and a spirit lamp as well. These can find a lot of use in the ultimate quest for the God Particle. Beat the Swiss to it.
